My life were better ended by their hate, than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.
– Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
The Capilano University Cinematography department sparked an ambitious endeavour this past Spring with a contemporary twist on the iconic love story of Romeo and Juliet. Straight on the heels of her first collaboration with emerging director Kevin Yang, CJ McGillivray was thrilled to take on the traditionally male role of Romeo Montague alongside Jessica Lee as her innocent lover, Juliet Capulet. The lovers were portrayed in contemporary attire as young adventurers lost in the throes of an intoxicating but fragile love. The young women were honoured to be given an opportunity to explore the work of William Shakespeare within a highly contemporary and gender blind scenario.
